L'infinitif d'un verbe est sa forme de base (V): 

work = travailler.

On le fait souvent précéder de la préposition to :

to work = travailler

La négation se forme en mettant not avant to :

To be or not to be, that is the question. = Etre ou ne pas être, telle est la question.

Attention : l'infinitif français peut se traduire en anglais par :

(to) V = To work is difficult. = Travailler est difficile.

ou

Ving : Working is difficult. = Travailler est difficile.
